Shlog Text :Today I saw a video clip from an episode of Boston Legal that really blew my mind. The name of the episode is "Stick it" which has been talked about on blogs and websites all over the net since it aired Wednesday night (March 15th.) The crux of the issue is that one of the lawyers on the show (Alan Shore, played by James Spader) has a secretary that is arrested for tax evasion. The reason that she had evaded her taxes was to protest the government and it’s illegal wars of conquest and the erosion of our rights and Freedom of Speech here in the U.S. So rather than hold a sign on a street corner to protest, she decided to really make it count by telling the IRS to “Stick It.”
I can’t even begin to tell you how much this episode echos my exact sentiments towards our beloved government. I’m sick and fucking tired of working my ass off so that it can be taken away from me and used to pay for illegal wars, prison abuse, and wiretapping. All in the name of fighting “terrorism, wherever it may be.”
I could go on. But instead, watch the clip of Alan Shore’s closing statements in the case. When you’re done watching that, you’ll know how I feel (and have felt for a long long time.)
This is a powerful episode. I don’t even watch Boston Legal. I heard about this clip and decided to watch it. And like I said… I really blew my mind. I think it blows my mind because someone on a nationally broadcasted network cable episode of a rather popular television program finally said what really needed to be said. We as Americans by allowing the wars, by allowing the prison abuse, by allowing “alleged” terrorists to be incarcerated and held for YEARS without any legal representation or without having ever even been charged with any crimes, by allowing the government to spy on it’s own citizens and to allow the erosion of rights to deteriorate to the point where “free speech zones” inside barbed wired cages miles away from anywhere the “President” is, by allowing this SHIT to happen, we are saying that it’s okay.
Well, its's NOT okay. And I think everyone needs to watch this. There's a reason that GW's poll rating are at 34%. I'm not against Republicans. And I'm not a democrat. Yes I'm for the Republic! I'm for Democracy!
I do believe that Americans are coming around. This isn't a partisan issue, this is an American issue. The current regime in Washington doesn't represent the America that our forefathers envisioned. It's not the country that our ancestors fought to protect. I feel the winds of change are blowing. Tell a friend. |

Shlog Text :We finally made it through Chrismtas! After scurrying to get the house clean for our my family Christmas dinner, and getting the food served hot, and kids tearing into packages, my husband and I finally had a nap (though he had a back massage with his new heated massager before dozing off). Our kids were up before the sun ready to open gifts and here it is, two days after Christmas, and they still aren't tired (whereas, we adults still are). We're trying to take turns sleeping in while the other parent corrals the kids in the morning. However, this morning, my poor husband didn't really get to sleep in because our son was up early and as lively and noisy as ever! I felt so bad for him (my husband that is). We're really looking forward to the ages where the kids want to sleep in a bit more and are ok with waiting to open their presents.......after Christmas dinner. So now Christmas is over, my husband is home and we're still trying to gain some energy, and also catch up on our movie viewing. Our goal, I think, is to watch the entire "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. I'm off to clean out the car now. I have a paper route for the time being and there are alot of bands and papers from the bundlecaps throughout the car. TTFN Mrs H |
